Club Profile

Early Days 

Since the turn of the century there were numerous clubs in the Courcey Parish, these includes Castlepark, Ballyrub, Old head, Kilcoleman Old Blue’s (Ballinspittle) and Ballinadee Both Ballinspittle & Ballinadee had success in the early 1940’s with Ballinadee winning the South West Junior B Hurling Championship in 1944. In 1947 Courcey Rovers was formed when Ballinadee and Ballinspittle joined forces, Instant success came to Courceys with the winning of the 1947 SW Junior A hurling Championship,   A glorious period would come in the 1950’s with a five in a row in the South West between 1953 and 1957. Courceys progressed to the County Junior A hurling final in 1957 only to be defeated by Tracton. 


The Sixties & Seventies 

During this period the club would dominate the Junior A Hurling scene in West Cork culminating in the club progressing to the 1970 County Final, however on the day they were defeated by a starstudded Cloghduv side. In 1975 the club took a major decision. After a vote by club members at a special meeting an application was made to join the South East division. 


The Eighties 

The 1980’s started on a winning note for Courceys winning the SE U21A Hurling championship for the first time, conversely the 1980’s would prove to be a lean period for the club in terms of silverware. On the 22nd of May 1988 the club officially opened its grounds at Ballinspittle. 


The Nineties 

In 1997 the club reached its first County Junior A hurling Final in 27 years, coming up short against today opponents Castlelyons. The Club would only have to wait two years before finding themselves back in the County final again losing a close game to neighbours Bandon 1997 would prove to be a historic year on the football front also with the club winning the SE Junior A Football title for the first time. The 90s would be a hugely fruitful period for the club’s underage section with the club culminating in victory in U21A County hurling championship in 1997, this would set the seeds for better days yet to come. 


The Noughties 

In 2001 the club finally reached the holy grail by winning the Junior Hurling County, in a day that will live long in the memory Courcey’s defeated Charleville in a rollercoaster game. The Club competed strongly in the Intermediate championship for the remainder of the decade losing out to St Catherine’s in 2004 and Blarney in 2008 in County Finals. 


2011-Present 

09th of October 2011 would prove to be a famous day in the club’s history when on the third time of asking the club were crowned Premier Intermediate Champions after defeating Youghal in the final, after three years in the Senior hurling ranks and a subsequent team rebuild the club returned to the Premier Intermediate final in 2018 with a young side only to be defeated by Charleville in a replay. Excluding replays Saturday 27th November 2021 is the club’s 10th county final appearance,
